„Hotel zur Blauen Blume“ – Das Fulldome Theater

27. Mai 2015, 19:00 Uhr. Premiere im Zeiss-Planetarium Jena zur Eröffnung des 9. FullDome Festival.

What about the anti-romantic rave, threateningly shouted through the dome by the ZoManer choir? With statements like “Irrational rapture is useless and dangerous!”

In Jena. Mit der symbolstarken Blauen Blume in 360 Grad.

A tall, light blue flower

With nobly glistening leaves

Attracted me with a powerful spell …”

Aufführung im Planetarium Jena am 25.05.2014Since Novalis first wrote about and discussed the „Blue Flower“ with his Jena friends around the year 1800, it has come to symbolize an insatiable yearning for love, beauty and transcendence. How does that influence life in a hotel? Ask the night man! He is actually a composer, trying to get the hotel staff to perform his choral music piece „Hymn to the Blue Flower“. But rehearsals are rudely interrupted by guests in strange rooms with even stranger stories. Deeper into the night and dreams of the hotel, the „Blue Flower“ takes on a life of her own.

Media art and design students from Bauhaus-University Weimar were asked to compose short episodes to show and tell what goes on behind the doors of the Hotel zur Blauen Blume. The results are as varied as they are breathtaking, but they all demonstrate the power of fulldome storytelling in 360 degree.

Based on writings by German poets Novalis and Ludwig Tieck, the ZoManer theater and performance group composed a live theatre play around the mythic Blue Flowe. It is centered around the “Hymn to the Blue Flower”, composed by Christiane Meyer-Koch. Later in the show, music artist Matthias Zeller interprets the increasingly intense rush of dome visuals with his 6-string electric violin. Prof. Wolf Leidel plays the night man in the Hotel zur Blauen Blume Concept and artistic direction is in the hands of Micky Remann.

No matter how far out the audience is drawn into animated visuals, spatial sound, episodes and live acting in the dome, the story always comes back to the night man answering the bell at the Hotel zur Blauen Blume.

Who is calling next?

„Relax,“ said the night man, „We are programmed to receive You can check out any time you like but you can never leave“
(The Eagles, Hotel California)

Following the success at the 2104 performance  “Kometentanz im Fulldome-Theater”  now a year later “Hotel zur Blauen Blume” follows up with an hommage to the spirit of the early romanticists’ movement.

FullDome Festival and Hotel zur Blaune Blume are partner in the 2015 theme of the City of Jena: “Romantik – Licht – Unendlichkeit”www.romantik-jena.de
